WEEK 4

Writing a script for my logo animation

I will begin by saying that I adapt my logo from what I had before because the logo seemed too simple and did not have strong features to be animated, so I gave it more of a creepy feeling, so it would have more things to animate and also it will represent the brand idea better than the previous one.

Old Logo
New Logo

The new logo is made of bones, which better represents the idea of a zombie theme; I also kept the primary lines in the background to add contrast and not to look very messy, and the bones alone could be pretty tricky to read the logo.

     Scripting:

The bones in the logo are now one separate element, so I want to make all of them move. I imagine the bones exploding and going all over the scene, and then they should come back together and connect to form the logo's shape. The orange part will remain static. I can add an effect so it would fade away or appear slowly to match the bones animation.

The background smoke in the old logo will be part of the new logo animation. As I know that in After Effects, there is a smoke effect, I want to use that and create a realistic smoke blowing around the logo.

I will keep the colours as it is, and I might add a purple background to the animation.

Researching motion graphics videos

Researching motion graphics design, I found Chalie Toque. He is very skilled with illustration and motion/animation techniques. His website is a great source of inspiration. One of his animations inspired the idea of the bones spreading on the screen that I scripted. He does the animations and explains how it has been done in a few steps.

Step 1: Illustration

He started showing his Illustrations, which may have been drawn in Illustrator or a similar program. He shows his characters, the typography created, and the logos used in the animation.

His drawing lines are simple yet pretty refined. The drawing is neat and clean.

Step 2: Storyboard

With the storyboard, he shows every shoot of the video, using an arrow to explain what he plans to animate. I noticed that he what not completely loyal to the storyboard, as a few of the steps are different in the final animation.

That is the idea of storyboarding, to experiment and generate ideas that can lead us to a different one.

Step 3: Still frames
Picture12.png

The still frames are some sort of detailed or developed storyboard. It shows how the idea will be presented and what colours should function better.

With that, I believe you can experiment with the palette of colours and how it will convey your message.

The frame above is the one that inspired me to use the bone movement as part of my logo animation. I considered using bones before seeing his page because it is part of the Halloween element style or when someone wants to create a frightening sensation, and when I saw it, I knew I could use that as an inspiration.

Step 4: Animation

Check out his full and final animation at his website:

Revising ideas and storyboarding

I believe I can convey a good message that will represent my brand logo and theme and communicate well with my audience. I expect to follow the script I wrote before and maybe change something while working on the animation.

It may suffer any alteration, but the idea sounds pretty solid so far.

Following the script, the idea is to separate the bones and put them back together while smoke surrounds the centre of the screen. The background may be purple, and the written RM and JLT may fade in the middle of the animation.

Week Reflection

I learned interesting this week. Finding graphic motion websites helped me develop essential skills and generate ideas for my motion application. Finding Charlie's website helped me understand how researching is necessary because I could see his creative process and apply some new things to mine, just like I did with the bones idea and how I drew my storyboard, using Illustrator artboards and pink lines to represent movement. It added a sort of more professional look to it.

I decided to change my logo because I felt the previous one was too static and difficult to animate.

This week was good for developing skills and enhancing my message through my design.
